August 17, 2011 -- OUTING: Walk the Waterfront on the Thea Foss Esplanade

In 1988, City Club of Tacoma released one of its most important and influential community studies: Dome to Defiance. Over the past 23 years, that dream of a pedestrian walkway from the Tacoma Dome to Point Defiance has come closer and closer to reality.

Join City Club for a night out to see the first leg of it. We will visit the south end of the Thea Foss Esplanade with stops to go inside the Esplanade condo development; Jim Merritt, who is working with the Foss Waterway Development Authority on a master plan, will lead a discussion on the future of the Foss; and we will see some of the biggest pieces of infrastructure built in Tacoma in the last few years.

Attendees will get a copy of City Club's Dome to Defiance community study.

Due to the walking nature of this program and the discussions planned along the way, we must limit attendance to 20 members. This is a special opportunity and we hope you won't miss it!

Start time: 5:30 pm: 1515 Dock Street (The Esplanade Condos). We will walk south from there to the D Street overpass. Attendees may choose to walk back to the starting spot or we will provide transportation. A light boxed meal will be provided.

RSVP via email by Tuesday, August 16 at noon. Cost: $17 for members. $22 for member guests. $27 for the general public. Members may attend for the "program only" rate of $8 and skip the meal.

This program coordinated by Liz Collins and Erik Hanberg.

This program is in place of an August lunch.
